The Central Coast Transport Development

Originally funded by the Area Assistance Scheme for 4 years had as an objective the identification and development of transport options for the Central Coast community.

The need for this project was identified by a number of concerned community members based on minimal infrastructure investment over time to improve Public Transport, the increase in population and development that goes with that and the change in society toward increased mobility.

The project conceived a number of initiatives to increase transport options for the

CC community including;

  • Transport brokerage system securing 180k to develop a programme engaging underutilised vehicles in the community to provide transportation for transport disadvantaged people.
  • A tourism initiative to encourage utilisation of local resources and importantly ferry services to support sustainability
  • Bicycle repair programme
  • Support for greater use of cycling as a means of transport on the CC including cycle lanes, storage lockers at stations, creation of a local cycling organisation.
  • Transport access guides were designed, produced and distributed for a number of areas including Ourimbah Uni and The Entrance.

One of the most significant outcomes of the project alongside representing the Central Coast community in annual public transport price submissions was to co-author the proposal to create a number of positions across the state to work on behalf of communities to improve transport options.
