Organisation Details

Mental Health services on Central Coast are soon to receive another major boost with the building of a new state-of-the-art, mental health facility at Gosford Hospital.

The new unit, which will be named the "Gosford Mental Health Centre", will comprise of a 30 bed inpatient unit and will also accommodate the Gosford Home Based Treatment Team. This team provides acute community based follow up to clients on discharge from the inpatient unit, and the co-location of these two services will assist with access and continuity of care of community clients.

The old 25 bed Mandala Clinic will relocated to the new building in early 2010. With the addition of 5 beds, the Gosford Mental Health Centre will be comprised of 24 general acute beds, with the ability to section off 4 beds for vulnerable persons, and 6 high dependency beds. All rooms in the unit will be single rooms and the 24 general acute bedrooms will have private ensuite facilities. The Gosford Mental Health Centre will boast both space and functionality. This is a new beginning for people with Mental Illnes of the Central Coast, with a modern and spacious facility that is family friendly and will provide a therapeutic environment in whcih high quality care will be given to our patients.

"One major benefit of the new unit is that it will be co-located with the general hospital", said Charles Thompson, Service Director, Central Coast Mental Health Service. "This means greater access to other essential hospital services, which will enable the Mental Health Service to provide total patient care for all patients admitted to the new unit."
