"Our vision is to bring hope and understanding to those in need, so they can be empowered, and grow".
"The mission of Lifeline Central Coast (NSW) is to provide high quality 24 hour telephone counselling, and associated community services. Lifeline's services express the Christian vision of caring for people of all backgrounds and circumstances."
Lifeline relies on the time and efforts of more than 11,000 volunteers Australia wide. When you volunteer for Lifeline you make a positive difference to the lives of other Australians as well as a positive difference to yourself. The possibilities are endless and volunteering is an enriching experience for both the individual and Lifeline.
Lifeline Central Coast, began in Gosford in March 1981. In 1986 Lifeline Central Coast moved to the current offices in Cary Street. Its name changed to Lifeline Central Coast (NSW) in 1988. A building appeal was launched in 1997 to raise funds for a training centre and in October 1999, the new Training Centre was opened by the NSW Governor Gordon Samuals AC.
In 2001 we also became a Registered Training Organisation offering the Certificate IV in Telephone Counselling Skills. This is nationally recognised qualification, and Lifeline Central Coast was the one of the first centres in a pilot programme to train and qualify counsellors in the Certificate IV.
Lifeline was founded in 1963 by the late Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker, after he received a call by a distressed man, who three days later took his own life. Determined not to let loneliness, isolation or anxiety be the cause of other deaths, Sir Alan launched a crisis line, which operated out of the Methodist Central Mission in Sydney. Just a few days after it was first established, Lifeline received over one hundred calls for help.
