TOWARDS A NSW WHOLE OF GOVERNMENT AGEING STRATEGY

The NSW Government is committed to developing a Whole of Government Ageing Strategy to respond to our ageing population. We are consulting widely to seek your input on planning for our ageing population.

The consultation process follows an Ageing Roundtable held in September 2011. Thesummary paper from the roundtable, available on the Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) website www.adhc.nsw.gov.au/about/strategies/ ageing_strategy_consultations, highlights priority
areas including social inclusion, health and well-being, housing, transport, mature workers, volunteering, attitudes to ageing and planning for later life.

Have your say
Over 30 consultations are taking place across NSW in the Sydney Metropolitan region and major regional centres in December 2011 and January 2012. Sessions are available for the general public, service providers, and a range of diverse stakeholders including sexually diverse, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The consultations will focus on three themes that will support positive ageing.
- Liveable communities, including affordable and appropriate housing design, social inclusion, creative, active, healthy, positive attitudes to ageing, health promotion and older people living in rural communities.
- Participation, including volunteering, productivity and income, workability - elimination of ageism and promoting flexible work options, transport -affordable and accessible options, and cultural diversity - culturally appropriate services to allow greater choice.
- Discrimination, Security and Dignity, including legal issues, planning for later life, responding to the abuse of older people, discrimination and
attitudes to ageing and 'ageing in place,' feeling safe and secure at home to age in place.
