Young carers are children and young people up to the age of 25 who provide care and support to someone who has a disability, long term illness, physical illness, mental illness, drug or alcohol problem.
During February 2012 Family and Community Services (Ageing, Disability and Home Care) in partnership with staff from the Young Carers program at Carers NSW will be holding regional information sessions promoting new resources to assist frontline staff in identifying and supporting young carers.
The sessions will be open to all interested government and non-government service providers and will showcase a new guide, website and e-learning tool.
The resources and these sessions aim to raise awareness of young carers and help staff to understand more about their experience of being a carer and the types of supports and services that might help them.
