Today marks a significant moment in our journey together to end the disparity between our peoples.
This morning at the Yaama Dhiyaan training centre at Redfern, GenerationOne launched the final "Career Ready" policy.

The paper advocates for a process which identifies an employer with a specific job, finds an Indigenous jobseeker and then trains them to meet the needs of the role and start their career. This would be the reverse of the current process which identifies the person, then the training and then hopes there will be a job.
This policy is the culmination of a year's work by our team and research partners. We took the time over 2011 to have a close look at the current employment system and found that, despite best efforts, it still leaves many Indigenous jobseekers behind.
The policy also promotes the development of Vocational Training and Employment Centres (VTECs) around Australia. These will better connect the 60,000 jobs committed to the Australian Employment Covenant by Australian businesses, to job ready Indigenous candidates. This should start with four demonstration sites in locations of high demand for Indigenous employees.
Thanks to the many job seekers, companies, community organisations and GenerationOne supporters who worked with us and had their say. Let's keep working together to end this disparity in one generation.
Regards
Tania Major
