Community Leadership

Community Leadership

The Community Leadership Project seeks potential leaders in the community at the grass roots level.

The Community Leadership project links a potential leader with a mentor who has the skills required to help the leader with their project.  Simple generic skills training to help run a community based project is provided as well as ongoing support for up to 12 months.
The project doesn’t seek iconic leaders, but focuses on community members who have ideas and aspirations to create projects that contribute to building community capacity.
Mentors who participate in the project come from all walks of life - business people, retirees, community workers and anyone else that may have the skills needed by a particular leader for their project and are willing to commit some time to the mentoring process.

Part of the success of the Community Leadership Project, is that it is flexible, and grows organically as the requirements of leaders change. The Community Leadership project links and networks with many organisations and resources that already exist in the community as per the Asset Based Community Development model.

The participants are encouraged to network with each other as they all have skills, contacts and links within their communities. By working together, sharing resources and knowledge Leaders help enhance each other’s projects, and increase the pool of resources available.
This project truly enriches the Central Coast Region, with many capable people now having the confidence and resources to put their vision into practice on how they would like to see their community operate, and provide resources that they believe are needed, all in a voluntary capacity.

The Community Leadership project is built on the Asset Based Community Development model and is a true community capacity building tool. The model can be utilised in any community on an ever expanding basis and can be used by members of the general community as is or tailored to specific groups of people, such as seniors, young indigenous people, people with disabilities, etc.
